Where to stick their thumb

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

The Corpse of Engineers are digging trying to find the source of seepage along the infamous 17th street canal. I guess they need to know where to stick their thumb.

Smoke free for two days

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Well here I go again, I haven’t had a cigarette in two days, that’s a sign that I may be stopping again. Having quit for over a year before I restarted, I never got up to the pack of day habit I had in the past. I was however smoking enough to recognize that cigarettes make me feel like shit.

Progress on parks

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Work seems to be progressing on the park on Laurel St. near Grits bar I think it is called Lyons playground or something like that. I posted on the situation with this park, and many others around the city. There was apparently a problem getting money to return the park to a park. FEMA used the park as a trailer park after Katrina, and then did not want to pony up to return it to a park. While the picture shows that it doesn’t look any better yet, they have started working on it.

Chief New Orleans Geek steps down

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Anthony Jones has stepped down from his post as the city’s super geek. Nagin sure is having trouble with this position. From Meffert and his party boat, crime cameras that don’t work, to a city web page that is a piece of crap, New Orleans needs a good super geek. Like most positions in the mayor’s administration people are hired for their political motives and not their actual skills. That’s really not helping the recovery of the city. Mayor Mook needs to get the fuck out of the way and let this city recover without his constant stream of bullshit.

Jones was the third person to hold the post of chief technology officer, which was created by the Nagin admininistration in 2002 and carries a salary of $160,000. Jones followed Greg Meffert, who left City Hall in 2006, and Mark Kurt, who resigned in early 2007.

Slow Bake

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Monday was one of those days where nothing went smoothly for me. I took the car in for service, wound up waiting a couple of hours before I found out that it would be a couple of more hours before it was ready. Made it to work a couple of hours late, I had a pile of work waiting for me when I got there and had to play catch up all day. Picked up the car later in the day, on the way home someone pulled out in front of me, I missed hitting her by about 6 inches, that not an exageration it was close. With a heat index of 107 derees on monday, I still went for a bike ride, I needed stress releif. After about thirty minutes on the levee I felt like I was basting in the 35 SPF sun block I was wearing. I imagined I was a Turkey in a broiler on Thanksgiving day. By the time I got home my stress was definitely gone. It took a couple of hours and a lot of water to cool off. Topped the day off wit a couple of beers thinking to myself that tomorrow would be a better day.

I love itThis is the list this is the real list. Thank God he is not at Cox Cable anymore, I want my MTV.

Lets not forget a local hero Karen Gadbois whose incredible documentation of the state of local housing and architectural infrastructure in New Orleans, brings light to issues that others wish we would ignore.

More than I could have hoped for

Monday, July 28th, 2008

So the Derrick Shepherd story is starting to unfold, you have got to love it, you can’t make this shit up. My favorite part is the account of the arrest.

From T.P.

Shepherd was arrested at his residence in Stonebridge. The sheriff’s office said there were two women in the house, one of whom appeared to be performing a lap dance on Shepherd, who was on a sofa.

Too cool, after breaking into an ex’s home taking her cell phone and some money, he heads home for a little lap dance action. Now that’s leadership in action. The only thing that would make this story better is if “diaper boy” David Vitter had been there too. This kind of story really makes me feel good. It is a definite sign of recovery for the City of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana. Keep up the good work.
