Each year at St. Charles and Conally we watched the parades with a profoundly retarded 40-something man and his ancient father. It was always our duty and pleasure to not only shield them from jerks but to also shower them with beads. Eventually they stopped showing up, when one of them probably died. I still miss them both to this day…

Great story! My first Mardi GRAS was a mistake – did not even realize it was that time of year – just wanted to drive 24 hours from buffalo to louisianna!

What a way that was to start the first morning of my first Mardi Gras season, a visit that would bring many wonderful memories and lead me to becoming a permanent resident 8 months later. The house on Prytania and its lovely owner brought together all kinds of people from many diverse points of view and all were welcome, including the black police woman who stopped by to use the bathroom and accepted the offer of a bloody mary from the huge cooking pot which sat on the kitchen table… all the while wearing fake glasses and mustache – with a white dildo for a nose. Upon learning that I was desperate to obtain a pair of Mardi Gras panties, she said, “Oh honey, I’ve got a pair for you right here!” and reached into her pocket and presented me with my prize. My seduction by the City of New Orleans was in full swing…
