I am usually pretty tough on the RTA but today I will give them a little credit. I can’t find the story online but WDSU reports that the St. Charles line will be completely restored by the end of the month. They said it would be completed by the spring of 2008, I’ll cut them some slack and say that is close enough. Amazing work they made it under the three year mark.
While it is still Spring 2008, I wonder what is keeping the R.T.A. from a complete restoration of the St. Charles Line
. As with so many public infrastructure repairs it seems to be taking a lot longer than it should. We are coming up on three years now. It’s time to get rid of the excuses and get things working here again.
On a positive note there is now bus service in Lakeview, I know someone who lived in Lakeview who used public transit to get around. The main reason she did not return was because she had no way to get around without any public transportation.
I’m back to catching the streetcar to work on a regular basis again. When I bought my car a year ago I had been catching public transit to work every day. Once I got the car I was going to continue to use public transportation but it just did not work out that way. Of course at the time the streetcars still weren’t running. The bus just doesn’t have the appeal of the streetcar. Streetcar riding is an experience all to itself from the fresh air to the great view you get from the streetcar windows, the bus just can’t compete. The people watching on the streetcar is also a lot of fun. My observation tells me that tourists are starting to come back to the city. Not very many tourists were catching the bus. The RTA reports that the rest of the St. Charles line will be completed in spring 2008. Wait a minute it is spring 2008.
